Santa Fe Indian Market centennial | Arts

SANTA FE, NM (PRNewswire) – The Southwestern Association for Indian Arts, the nonprofit that produces the annual Santa Fe Indian Market, announced in a press release that planning for the Centennial Santa Fe Indian Market is underway. The 2022 Santa Fe Indian Market will be held on Saturday, August 20 and Sunday, August 21.

According to the nonprofit press release, the Santa Fe Indian Market has been North America’s largest and most important jury market for indigenous art since 1922. Originally focused on indigenous art of the Southwest, the market has over the years expanded its reach to include indigenous artists from all regions of the United States and Canada.

SWAIA will also showcase its very first Art Indigenous: a contemporary art exhibition featuring sculpture, painting, photography, installation and performance from galleries around the world exhibiting indigenous artists from the United States and Canada. The four day art exhibition takes place at El Museo Cultural in Santa Fe in the Railyard Arts District of Santa Fe. The show kicks off with a VIP opening party on Thursday, August 18th.

The Santa Fe Indian Market, which started as a weekend art market, has grown into an indigenous art mecca that has been adopted by Santa Fe’s finest galleries and cultural institutions.

“2022 will be like no other for Indigenous art collectors and visitors to Santa Fe. The city of Santa Fe welcomes our centenary and many of the leading galleries and institutions produce Indigenous-themed content and shows by top indigenous artists all year round,” said Kim Peone, executive director of SWAIA.
