Santa Fe man wrongfully cited for parking

SANTA FE, NM (KRQE) – A Santa Fe man has gone from shock to frustration after being handed a ticket. It’s one he doesn’t even deserve. He tries to clean up the mess but doesn’t seem to get any help from the city. The man is demanding action from the city’s parking department after he was fined for not having a parking permit display despite being clearly visible.

Mark Armijo was parked in a loading zone with a permit and received a ticket for not having one.

Mark said that as a property manager, he always uses these loading zones. “We have a loading zone permit because we’re always in all the buildings,” Armijo said.

Armijo contacted the city several times, only to receive a response a month after the incident. “He let me know that I wouldn’t hear from anyone for five to six months because there was no one in that position. He told me not to worry, don’t think about it for five to six months, then I’ll hear from them,” Armijo said.

He said he even went to the parks department personally. “I went to the park supervisor and they were always closed,” Armijo said. “I’ve never seen it open, they’re supposed to be open on Tuesdays.”

The city, like everywhere else, says they are understaffed and need to change their hours. The car park website states that they are only open on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Mark says he understands what the pandemic has brought to the city but hopes they make some changes before more tickets are submitted. “I don’t understand why they give tickets when they can’t even enforce it,” Armijo said.

KRQE News 13 contacted the City of Santa Fe to ask why he got the ticket and what is being done to clear it up. They responded Tuesday afternoon that they are looking into the matter but say it will take time due to staffing issues.
