Santa Fe mayor’s campaign faces third ethics complaint | Local News

A third ethics complaint has been filed against Mayor Alan Webber’s re-election campaign.

The most recent complaint, the fourth of the election season, was filed Monday by retired Santa Fe educator Maria Bautista with the city’s ethics and campaign review committee over a June video starring Santa Fe Fuego, a baseball team in the independent regional Pecos League.

Bautista said in the complaint that Webber’s campaign used a “Santa Fe City Contracting Party” to promote the campaign and misrepresented the comments made by Fuego General Manager Yvonne Encinias.

The video, which the Webber campaign quickly created after Encinias raised concerns, contained quotes from Encinias that some may have found endorsement of Webber’s campaign.

Encinias said she is trying to highlight the return of Fuego baseball to the Fort Marcy field.

The three other complaints in the race have already been decided by the city’s ethics committee.

In July, mayoral candidate Alexis Martinez Johnson filed a complaint alleging that Webber’s campaign used a city-funded cool-down event to publicize his re-election campaign. The complaint was dismissed after Martinez Johnson did not indicate a specific violation.

The second complaint was made by the Webber campaign against three local organizations, alleging improper campaigning on behalf of its other challenger, Councilor JoAnne Vigil Coppler. These organizations, in turn, filed a complaint against Webber’s campaign, accusing it of “bullying” it.

These complaints were also rejected.
