Solana Santa Fe modernization moves ahead

With the start of the new school year there is a lot of excitement at Solana Santa Fe School. Headmaster Matt Frumovitz said not only are students and teachers excited to study together again, but Rancho Santa Fe School is in the middle of a major modernization project.

“We are on the move, building for the future in the truest sense of the word,” said Frumovitz during the headmaster’s update at the Solana Beach School District board meeting on September 8th.

Construction on the first phase of the $ 21 million project began in June. The first phase involved the demolition of the kindergarten play area and the construction of a retaining wall on the north side of the campus in El Apajo. The retaining wall, at its tallest 22 feet, will support a new parking lot on this side of the school next to a redesigned kindergarten play area.

“Amazing things happen every day and it’s fascinating to see our campus change,” said Frumovitz. “Who would have thought I loved retaining walls?”

He said construction on the small campus is proceeding safely and the noise has so far not affected teaching or learning.

The second phase of the renovation of Solana Santa Fe is expected to begin in late autumn or early winter, with the construction of a new two-story classroom building, modernization of the administration building, construction of the new North Car Park and the reconstruction of the South Car Park including paving over the existing large drainage culvert.

The entire project should be completed by winter 2022.

Solana Santa Fe started the year with 310 students, including students from the Pacific Highlands Ranch neighborhoods.

“This year there was a significant increase in the number of students who came to our school from this area,” said Frumovitz. “We are so grateful to these families, they have enriched our school and have come together with our established, great community.”
