The Las Cruces boys continued to roll through Districts 3-5A with back-to-back dominant wins this weekend.

After scoring 110 points against Gadsden on Friday, the Bulldawgs improved to 17-0 and 4-0 in the district game with a 93-47 home win over Organ Mountain (1-1, 3-5A).

“We’re just trying to take every day, day by day, and get better at practice and understand that it’s not about the score, it’s about getting better,” Aggies coach William Benjamin said. “I thought we did well today.”

Organ Mountain struggled with the Bulldawgs’ press, but four 3s made kept the Knights close at 23-12 after the first quarter.

But the Bulldawgs took the lead in the second quarter, beating Organ Mountain 16-0 to go 39-12 after a dunk by Deuce Benjamin and a two-handed slam by Isaiah Carr from an assist by Benjamin.

Carr and Benjamin each scored 31 points on Saturday. and David Cruz scored 13 points.

Dorian Rivera led the Knights with 13 points.

“[Knights coach Rocky Gonzales]did a good job getting Deuce together as a doubles team and getting us to run different zone offenses,” said William Benjamin. “We got better today because we had to do other things offensively and also had to work on the press.

Centenary 44, Mayfield 42

Aspen Salazar led the Hawks with 19 points, Joslyn Montez scored nine points and Brooklyn Maes added six points.

Mayfield fell back to 2-1 in the district game. Lyric Corona scored 12 points to lead the Trojans and Maggie Salas scored 11 points.

Friday

Century 60, Deming 19

Joslyn Montez scored 21 points to lead the Hawks, and Aspen Salazar and Paetin Silva each scored eight points.

Las Cruces 47, Gadsden 28

The Bulldawgs improved to 3-0 in the district game. Emma Christiano scored 16 for the Bulldawgs and Jaci Powers scored 15 points.

Carlsbad 18, Mayfield 16

Mayfield fell to 10-7 on the season. Maggie Salas scored 10 of the Trojans’ points.

Friday

Las Cruces 110, Gadsden 30

The Bulldawgs dominated on the road, improving to 16-0 in the season and 2-0 in the district game.

Isaiah Carr scored 22 points for the Bulldawgs, Deuce Benjamin scored 15 and Abraham Mitchell added 13 points.

Las Cruces 70, Hobbs 55

Las Cruces improved to 15-0 in the season with an away win at Hobbs.

Deuce Benjamin led the Bulldawgs with 31 points with eight rebounds and eight assists. Kaden Self had 17 points with nine rebounds and Isaiah Carr had 12 points with eight rebounds.

Centenary 62, Mayfield 60

Centennial improved to 1-1 in district play and Mayfield fell to 2-1.

Jeven Beltran led the Hawks with 24 points and Nicolas Serna scored 14 points.

The Las Cruces girls take third place in the Cleveland tournament

The Las Cruces wrestling teams competed at the Cleveland tournament over the weekend.

The girls finished third out of 27 teams and the boys finished seventh out of 27 teams.

Alyssa Sedillo took first place at 100 pounds and Andreina Lugo took first place at 138 pounds. Heavynne Robles Wright was second at 107 pounds, Rubyanne Lugo was second at 120 pounds, Alexis Arana was fourth at 165 pounds and Jayden Pacheco was sixth at 132 pounds.

For the boys, Ryan Baca was second at 145 pounds, Elijah Ogas was second at 152 pounds, Aden Martinez was third at 113 pounds and Isaiah Carreon was fifth at 170 pounds.
