ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KRQE) – A person is dead after a shooting at the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday and a MP was injured in the scuffle. At around 8:15 p.m., Bernalillo County Dispatch received a call from Albuquerque Police Dispatch regarding a domestic violence incident that occurred at Allsup’s gas station on Coors Blvd., according to a department press release. and Blake.
Authorities report that the caller was the victim of the incident and called a non-emergency dispatcher from the Las Mananitas Apartments in Montano Plaza. MPs came to the apartment complex to speak to the victim and discovered during an investigation that a battery had appeared.
While the MPs were talking to the victim, the alleged battery perpetrator, a grown man, arrived at the scene and then fled on foot. MPs were reportedly involved in a car chase and after contacting the suspect a physical altercation began and at least one MP fired a bullet and hit the suspect.
“Our deputies apparently got into a chase, there was some kind of physical altercation. MPs were involved in an altercation, and our deputy appears to have suffered some types of injuries. At least one MP fired one shot and fatally injured the suspect, “said BCSO Sheriff Manny Gonzales.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The extent of the deputy’s injuries is unknown. Nor did the sheriff say whether the suspect was armed.
BCSO reports that Violent Crimes and Homicide detectives and the Multi-Agency Shoot Team are investigating the incident. In addition, in accordance with the BCSO guideline, the deputies involved in the incident are interviewed and the footage from the body cameras is checked before additional details are released.
