The ABQ BioPark Botanical Garden and Aquarium is celebrating its 25th anniversary

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KRQE) – The Albuquerque BiopPark is opening an annual celebration to mark the 25th anniversary of the Aquarium and Botanical Gardens. In 1996 the two joined the then Rio Grande Zoo to found the ABQ BioPark.

There is something for everybody. Allyson Zahm is the Guest Experience Manager of the BioPark. She explains, “It brings all of nature together so you can explore the oceans, learn about the wonders of plants and see the amazing animals in the zoo.”

BioPark employees look forward to celebrating how far the park has come in 25 years. Some visitors say they come at every opportunity. “I think I appreciate it every year when I come and that it’s nice to have this,” said visitor Michelle Palacios

As a memorial, guests celebrating the BioPark’s birthday on December 5th received free entry, otters received a special enrichment and much more. Zahm says: “We are so unique that there are very few places like BioPark in the world, let alone the USA, so we are really proud of what we have created here in 25 years.”

If you missed it, the BioPark plans to keep the celebration going all year round. “Over the course of the year we will have many more events and activities related to our 25th anniversary, we will tell the story of everything we have done over the past 25 years and a little taste of what is to come . “

With the gross income tax, employees say there will be money this year to make even more improvements. “As we go through this master planning process, we’ve received another decade of funding from this tax, so I’m really excited to see how much this place will change and grow,” said Zahm.

Next month the park will celebrate sea turtles. You can also experience the River of Lights in the Botanical Garden until December 30th.
