The Doña Ana Photography Club selects photos of the year

LAS CRUCES – The Doña Ana Photography Club recently announced the winners of its 10th annual Photo of the Year competition.

Bill Hanson’s “Backyard Wheel” received top honors out of 66 member submissions. Hanson’s otherworldly photo combines 180 exposures of the night sky to create the trail of light emitted by stars as they traverse the sky above his New Mexico backyard.

“Beauty is everywhere, even in our backyard,” Hanson said.

The Photo of the Year competition gives club members the opportunity to share their best recent shots and receive feedback through the judges’ awards and comments.

“The Photo of the Year competition is the crowning achievement of the Doña Ana Photography Club’s year. We always have a lot of candidates and the event brings out their best work,” said club president Dale Taylor.

Entries are by class and category. Class A is open to previous POY ribbon winners and Class B is open to all others. Class A categories are monochrome and color; Class B categories are combined.

Hanson’s POY photo was the best in Class A, color. Additional “Best in Class” awards went to Seth Madell for “Ansel and Me”, Class A, Monochrome; and Marc Christensen for “Vastness”, Class B. Other award winners were:
