The leader of the Las Cruces community, storyteller, celebrates his 100th birthday

LAS CRUCES – Florence Hamilton, former secretary of the Doña Ana County NAACP and member of Storytellers of Las Cruces, celebrated her 100th birthday on Saturday, January 15, 2022 in Las Cruces.

When asked about her longevity, Hamilton said, “God must have lost my ‘Call Me’ sign.”

Hamilton, a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha chapter in El Paso, joined her sisters, friends and family for her birthday celebration.

“Our sorority is about community service, which it is deeply committed to,” said Cathy Davidson, an Alpha Kappa Alpha sister who is billed as the first intercollegiate, historically black sorority. “She supports advocacy and she supports family.”
