Three-car crash in Santa Fe causes gas leak after vehicle hits home | Local News

West Zia Road and Yucca Street were closed after a house and gas meter were hit in a three-vehicle accident Thursday morning.

Lt. Chris McCord of Santa Fe Police Department said the accident occurred at 8:50 a.m. after a red truck illegally turned left on Yucca Street while traveling north on West Zia Road. An oncoming car crashed into the truck, causing it to spiral out of control and collide with a house on Calle Pacifica 2305, he said. A third vehicle ended the car that hit the red truck.

According to a press release, Santa Fe police and fire departments arrived to assist drivers and assess the damage to the home. The New Mexico Gas Company had also arrived to investigate the damage to the gas meter, the statement said.

Two drivers were rushed to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A third driver was evacuated on site by rescue workers, it said in the message. There were no passengers in any vehicle.

McCord said the house sustained some damage to an exterior wall after the car drove through it.

The intersection of Yucca Street and West Zia Road remained closed while authorities waited for the gas to be turned off and released, the statement said. The lock was lifted at 9:48 a.m.

The accident is still being investigated by the Santa Fe traffic police. McCord said the driver of the red truck had received a traffic obstruction.
