Train stalls in middle of Las Cruces, blocking several crossings

LAS CRUCES – A train stalled in the middle of Las Cruces Tuesday afternoon, blocking vehicles and pedestrians from seven crossings, including at Picacho and Amador avenues.

Las Cruces Police Department Det. Frank Torres confirmed that the train broke down and that there is no estimated time at this point for when it will be moved. Torres also confirmed that the Hoagland Road and Avenida de Mesilla crossings are open for vehicles.

Between Hoagland and Avenida de Mesilla, there are seven crossings: McClure Road, Parker Road, Picacho Avenue, Hadley Avenue, Amador Avenue, El Molino Boulevard and Brown Road.

According to drivers in the area, the train has been stalled on the tracks since at least about 4 pm Tuesday. As of 6 pm, it is still blocking traffic.
