Albuquerque police say they are no longer looking for Catiana Zepeda, the 4-year-old whose mother was found dead in an apartment in southeast Albuquerque on Friday.
“Catiana has been found and she is safe,” Albuquerque police spokesman Gilbert Gallegos said Saturday morning, about nine hours after the agency asked the public for help in finding her.
Gallegos said officials responded to the “unsupervised death” of the child’s mother, Cathalena Laughing, on the 500 block of San Pablo SE.
Gallegos said Laughing was dead three or four days when her body was found. He said the girl was not found at home and neighbors told police that they had not seen her in a week.
Gallegos did not say how Laughing died.
