Ledes from the Land of Enchantment

Virginia Melville Obituary (2021) – Albuquerque, NM

Virginia “Ginny” Melville

On July 4, 2021, God named Virginia “Ginny” M. Melville, a loving mother, teacher, and friend, aged 74, after a fall that left her with a significant brain injury. Known for her beautiful free spirit and fireworks personality, she left this earth on a suitable holiday and should be celebrated as such.

Ginny was born on May 22, 1947 in Beech Grove, Indianapolis, Indiana, to her late parents, Earl and Hildegard Schulz. After growing up in Indianapolis, she received a teaching degree from Ball State University. Fighting severe asthma and longing for a drier climate, Ginny left Indiana for the west, where educational opportunities led her to New Mexico, where she would put down roots.

Ginny has been an educator for over 30 years and has retired from Albuquerque Public Schools where she taught various grades in elementary school. For the rest of her life she gave regular tutoring and worked tirelessly for the youth of Albuquerque. When she wasn’t teaching, Ginny could be found gardening, camping, traveling, crocheting, cross-stitching great Christmas stockings, dancing, and socializing with dear friends. Her sincere, compassionate, and loving personality attracted everyone’s attention and was loved by everyone.

In death, Ginny preceded her parents Earl and Hildegard (Kluger) Schulz and her sister Carol Scherschel. She is survived by her two sons Sean Michael Melville (Nicole) and Brent Alan Melville (Emily) and their beautiful grandchildren Addison Grace, her likeness and Luke Jameson, whom she loved so much. She also leaves behind her sister and best friend Vicki Donovan, her brother John Schulz DDS and her many beloved brothers / sisters, nephews, nieces and cousins with whom she kept in touch as her family was very important to her.

Ginny was the embodiment of a lived life – and everything she knew got everything from her – her wit, warmth, laughter, fun, love and support are missed.

A memorial service to celebrate their lives with family and friends will be held on Friday the 24th. Their ashes will be buried at Vista Verde Memorial Park in Rio Rancho, New Mexico in a private ceremony that will be held later.
