Cinco de Mayo falls on Thursday this year, so might as well start the weekend celebrations early.
It’s not Mexico’s Independence Day, but it commemorates the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over French forces in 1862.
Here are some fun ways to mark the day.
Hotel Paso del Norte Cinco de Mayo: The hotel at 10 Henry Trost Court will have a Cinco de Mayo celebration Thursday with specials on margaritas and Patron cocktails in the Dome Bar and other hotel venues: Sabor, El Mirador and 1700° Steakhouse. Local musician Jessica Flores will perform from 7 to 10 pm Thursday in The Dome Bar.
Casa Torres Mexican Restaurant: The restaurant, 3351 George Dieter Drive, will have its Cinco de Mayo celebration with music and a live singer from noon to 4 pm Saturday, May 7. Information: 915-759-4066.
4th & Goal BBQ: The barbecue place, at 1550 Hawkins Blvd., will have drink specials throughout the day on Thursday. Live DJ will start at 6 pm
Taco cabana: The franchise is celebrating Cinco de Mayo by offering the new Tajín Margarita. Other popular flavors include lime, strawberry and mangoneada.
Amador Dayz: Chris Pérez and AB Quintanilla will be performing separately at Amador Dayz music festival at 302. S. Main St. in Las Cruces. AB Quintanilla III y Los Kumbia King ALLSTARZ will perform Thursday and Grupo Metal with Chris Pérez will perform Friday. The music continues Saturday with other featured acts. Tickets are $50 for each day if purchased online at amadorlive.com. A beer garden also will be set up for attendees.
