Cheryl “Alene” Walker died on her 64th birthday on December 6, 2021 with her loving family. She was born on December 6, 1957, in Farmington, New Mexico, to Charles Ellison Beavers and Leila Helen Evans. Growing up, she loved her parents, who taught her the value of hard work, ingenuity, and a mean game of marbles and table tennis.
Alene graduated from Kirtland Central High School and then earned a BS in Psychology from Brigham Young University. While studying at BYU, she met and fell in love with Grady Leroy Walker. They were married on July 24, 1978. They were blessed with three children, two sons and a daughter, who were the world to her.
She was a faithful member of Latter-day Saints of Jesus Christ and always had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ. She has served in many ward and stake callings. She particularly loved serving in Relief Society and young women. She said, “Work is a sign of love and when you help someone, you love them.” This was a life motto that she lived by every day.
After her children grew up, she decided to go back to school for a Masters and was certified as a school counselor and school administrator. She loved working in elementary school and was always positive and encouraging towards the students and teachers she worked with.
She developed many hobbies throughout her life and used them to bless others. She played the piano wonderfully, was a wonderful cook and a talented seamstress. She made pajamas for each of her grandchildren every Christmas for Christmas, despite the challenge of keeping up with their ever-changing sizes. One of her most valued projects was a red, white, and blue star “honor blanket” that she created with her mother to honor her husband Grady’s contribution to the military.
She leaves behind her husband Grady, their children Paul Walker (Kristy), Redlands, California; Stacy Burtenshaw (Jeremy), Spokane, Washington; Darren Walker (Kim), Bountiful, Utah. As well as 14 grandchildren who love to play games, camp, learn family history, do handicrafts and bake goodies with their beloved grandma.
The memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Latter-day Saints’ Church of Jesus Christ at 591 W. 500 N., St. George, Utah. Before that there will be a tour from 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. The burial will take place on Monday, December 13, 2021, in the Kirtland, New Mexico Cemetery, with a funeral service at 10 a.m.
