Albuquerque Luminaria Tour tickets go on sale this week

luminaria, in its English translation means illumination. The tradition of the luminarias began here in New Mexico centuries ago. They started as little bonfires made with pinyon pine. Today the luminarias, also known as Far Alito’s, our paper sacks partially filled with sand and lit with *** small candle. They are symbolic of the shepherds, fires lighting the way for the coming of the christ child at Albuquerque’s Old Town Tonight, some 10,000 luminarias were set up and lighted to celebrate the christmas season.

The annual Luminaria Tour will take on Christmas Eve this year. ABQ Ride is continuing the 57-year tradition with six slots for the magical tour through the Old Town, Country Club and Huning Castle neighborhoods. Tour times on Christmas Eve are scheduled for 5:30 pm, 5:50 pm, 6:10 pm, 7:05 pm, and 7:25 pmTickets for the Luminaria Tour will be sold online beginning Friday, Nov. 25, at 8 :00 am
