ALBUQUERQUE, NM (AP) – Amid growing concerns over violent crime in New Mexico’s most populous city, Albuquerque police say detectives responded to three separate shooting scenes in 10 hours to investigate a murder.

Police said the first murder victim was a man whose daughter called 911 early Wednesday evening to report the shooting in a house. According to the police, the shooter left the scene before the officers arrived.

Police said the second was a man who was found dead in a motel after officers responded to a report of gunfire shortly before midnight.

The third concerned a person who was found dead in an alley behind a shop early Thursday morning.

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and other Democrats elected are due to meet in Albuquerque Thursday to discuss public safety proposals ahead of next week’s legislature.

Public officials, especially those representing voters in Albuquerque, are facing increasing pressure to deal with record killings and other violent crimes.
