Albuquerque teacher Hope Montoya-Encinias honored with Golden Apple Award

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KRQE) – Past Golden Apple winners helped Hope Montoya-Encinias prepare for her sophomore year during her senior year of college. “I started the Golden Apple Scholarship Program in 2006,” said Montoya-Encinias. “I’ve always loved learning and sharing my love for learning.”

Now, after 16 years of teaching, she received the Golden Apple for helping math students at the New Mexico Connections Academy. “The most memorable part of teaching is seeing a student after graduation. and see their accomplishments and everything they’ve done, ”said Montoya-Encinias.

Today she is the director of mathematics classes at Explore Academy in Albuquerque. “It was really exciting to see students in person, to connect with them, to see them face to face,” said Montoya-Encinias.

Winning the Golden Apple brings her to tears. She wants to thank her parents, including her father who is fighting cancer. “Growing up, my parents always taught me the value of giving. “He was just a huge inspiration,” said Montoya-Encinias.
