Santa Fe English teacher Carmen Moon receives Golden Apple Award

SANTA FE, NM (KRQE) – English teacher Carmen Moon loves to make her students laugh and says it opens their minds, hearts and souls to new ideas. Carmen Moon majored in English and drama, and in college she wasn’t sure which career path to pursue. “That’s one thing I think is important as a high school teacher. It’s okay if you don’t already know exactly what you want to do, ”said Moon.

“I love the stories you find in literature. I love bringing the stories to life like you do in the theater and it just became a natural bridge into the classroom that I share the stories I love in literature and really play them in the classroom all day can. Said moon.

She tells her students at Santa Fe Capital High School that they are her captivated audience. “I tell my students that if you laugh at least once a day, really once an hour, maybe every 15 minutes, you will have a better life.

She said she was grateful to have a live audience again after a year of online classes. “I just wanted to try to connect, just to know that someone was on the other side of the screen, I needed that as well as my students,” said Moon.

She said that she shares her Golden Apple Award with all teachers. “Having been in this field for 20 years, it is an endorsement that teachers are not getting much or not enough of it,” said Moon.
