Annual outdoor leisure conference touted as “best so far”

New Mexico State Senator Jeff Steinborn, D-Doña Ana, invites residents of Las Cruces and Doña Ana Counties to attend the fourth annual New Mexico Outdoor Economics Conference, held Wednesday through Friday, September 29-October. 1 at Farmington Civic Center, 200 W. Arrington St., in Farmington.

Expected speakers are: Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham; New Mexico Land Commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richard; State Secretary for Tourism, Jen Schroer; Secretary of State, Department for Economic Development (EDD) Alicia Keyes; State Senator and Las Cruces Green Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Carrie Hamblen; Keep America Beautiful Senior Director Randy Hartmann; Axie Navas, director of the Outdoor Recreation Division (ORD) in New Mexico; and others in the outdoor leisure industry and advocacy organizations.

“This year’s conference will be the best yet,” said Steinborn, President of Outdoor New Mexico, which is organizing the conference with ORD, a division of EDD. “The conference features topics for discussion, a new outdoor expo from New Mexico-based outdoor companies, and opportunities for all New Mexico residents to participate, have fun, and learn.”

Conference topics include outdoor marketing, business development and funding opportunities for outdoor infrastructure, increasing outdoor access, agrotourism and conservation needs.

The conference provides an opportunity to learn and discuss about the state’s $ 2.2 billion outdoor recreational industry, Steinborn said. These include panel discussions, trips to regional outdoor hotspots, evening networking receptions, a pitch party for start-up outdoor companies to present their ideas to angel investors, the Wild & Scenic Film Festival and an outdoor product -Expo.

Outdoor recreational opportunities during the conference include the Alien Run mountain bike trails, the Animas River Trail Walk, the Aztec Ruins National Monument tour, the Becalm meditation hike on the Bisti destination, the scenic 4×4 drive tour of the Chokecherry Canyon, the Crow Canyon Rock Art Tour, Majestic Enchantment on the San Juan River, Paddle to Pedal: A River and Bike Adventure, Piñon Hills Golf and the San Juan River Raft Float.
