Application deadline for cadets for the Las Cruces Police Department Training Academy

El Paso, TX (KTSM) – The application deadline to be a cadet for the 51st Training Academy of the Las Cruces Police Department is Friday, July 30th.

Complete applications must be received electronically by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, July 30th. The LCPD Academy begins in January and comprises 22 weeks of field and face-to-face classes.

The department offers various recruitment and retention incentives, including:

  • Base incentive: $ 6,000
  • Associate Degree or Four Years of Military Service: $ 10,000
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Retirement: $ 15,000
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or Criminology: $ 20,000
  • Masters or PhD in Sociology, Criminal Justice, or Criminology: $ 25,000

Applicants who have not already done so should take one of the physical fitness exams, which are held every hour on the hour on Saturday, July 31, from 7 am to 11 am at the Field of Dreams, 2501 Tashiro Rd. Applicants can choose any session choose which they want to attend.

Attendees must download and complete a physical fitness assessment waiver form prior to attending a session. The physical fitness assessment waiver form is available on the Las Cruces Police Department website. Participants must submit the completed form upon arrival for the physical fitness test.

Applicants should arrive well in advance of the chosen meeting. Potential applicants are encouraged to wear clothing and footwear that meet the four physical fitness standards set by the New Mexico Department of Public Safety. The basic access standards – the same for men and women – include:

  • 1.5 mile run in 15 minutes, 14 seconds or less
  • 300 meter run in 71 seconds or less
  • At least 27 sit-ups in less than 1 minute
  • At least 15 pushups in less than 1 minute
