Ledes from the Land of Enchantment

Betty Tingey Obituary (1941-2021) – Farmington, UT

Betty Lois Irvin Tingey, 80, of Farmington, Utah, died at home with loved ones on the morning of December 8, 2021. Since August 2020 she has been lovingly cared for by the doctors, nurses and caregivers of Inspiration Home Health and Hospice and her family.

Betty was born on July 31, 1941 in Farmington, New Mexico, to Joseph Hazen Irvin and Lois Burnham. As a teenager, she moved to Dolores Colorado with her parents. She had fond memories of fishing with her family in their back yard on the Dolores River. There she attended Dolores High School, where she was homecoming queen, rodeo queen, and cheerleader.

Betty met her husband Nolland on a blind date and they were married forever on June 6, 1968 (age 53) in the Logan Utah Temple.

After graduating from Brigham Young University with a BS in Elementary Education, Betty began her career as a kindergarten and third grade teacher. After having her babies, she worked in several jobs in the county. She was a librarian at Davis County Library and spent some of her time driving the book truck. She worked in accounts payable for Davis County Public Works and retired as a coordinator for Davis County Senior Services.

A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Betty enjoyed serving for several years as the principal chorister and ward librarian in the Farmington Utah 3 Ward.

Betty enjoyed researching her and her husband’s family history in her free time. They often found her at the Salt Lake City Family History Library, where she was microfilming or searching historical archives in a serious search for her lost ancestors.

Betty was a very compassionate person and would do anything for her family. She took an active role as a sister, aunt, mother and grandmother. You’d often see her cheering on the sidelines during a sporting event and / or concert, driving miles to find the perfect campsite or visiting family, and building a tree house in the back yard.

Betty’s memory is kept alive by her husband Nolland; Children Kevin, Teresa & husband Greg, JoAnna and Wesley; Grandsons Jarom, Melissa, Desiree, Avery, Spencer, Anna, Adelyn and Aliyah. She was welcomed to heaven by her parents Joseph and Lois and sisters Darlene (Curg) and Carol (Lynn).
