Big day for Las Cruces: Organ Mt. 8th grader wins girls individual title in 5A golf; Centennial girls take 5A team title

Las Cruces made a big showing at the state golf championships in Albuquerque Monday and Tuesday, May 9-10.

The Centennial High girls team won the team 5A championship at Twin Warriors Golf Club, and an eighth-grader from Organ Mountain High, Eleanor Warden, was the girls 5A individual champion.

In the A-3A championships at Canyon Club at Four Hills, Mesilla Valley Christian won the boys team title.

Warden shot a two-day total of 151 to beat defending girls 5A champion Alex Armendariz of Centennial, who shot a two-day total of 154 to finish second.

As a team Centennial shot a two-day total of 716 to beat La Cueva of Albuquerque (728) and Piedra Vista of Farmington (734).
Besides Armendariz, Centennial got strong showings from: Brooklyn Maes (fourth, 162); Arianna Rel (28th, 199); Sidda Schultz (32nd, 201); and Paulina Cardenas, (39th221).

Las Cruces High had two girls who finished in the top 20 – Abriella Muniz (14th175) and Hannah Michael (16th182).

In the boys A-3A, Mesilla Valley Christian carded a two-day total of 656 to beat Clovis Christian (705).

Logan Morris of Mesilla Valley was the individual champion with a two-day total of 155 to edge teammate Riley Morris who took second with a 157.

Also for Mesilla Valley, Aydan Muro and Beau Barker tied for ninth at 172, and Samuel Biad was 23approx at 202.
