Branch murder weapon in fatal brawl in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (AP) – Albuquerque police have arrested a man who is suspected of beating another man to death several times with a branch while he was lying on the ground.

Police arrested the 50-year-old Kewa Pueblo man after the attack on Monday in southeastern Albuquerque and, according to Albuquerque police spokesman Gilbert Gallegos, confessed to the attack.

The suspect faces open charges of murder.

The police did not immediately identify the male victim of the attack.

According to a police report, the men knew each other, had drunk alcohol and had physical fights in the past.

Albuquerque has seen a record number of murders this year, exceeding 100 earlier this month.
