SANTA FE – Two weekends, two concerts, two world-class ensembles! Santa Fe Pro Musica continues its String Works Series in February with back-to-back concert weekends.

The Castalian String Quartet and the Cuarteto Casals will perform classics of the string quartet repertoire at the St. Francis Auditorium.

The Castalian String Quartet will perform works by Mozart, Janáček and Schubert on Sunday 13 February and the Cuarteto Casals will perform works by Haydn, Beethoven and Shostakovich on Saturday 19 February.

The Castalian String Quartet will present a free lecture and demonstration open to the public on February 13 (masks and proof of vaccination required). Following the concert in the afternoon, audience members can enjoy an artist dinner in the Santacafé together with members of the Castalian String Quartet (reservation required via the Pro Musica box office).

About the Castalian String Quartet:

In the decade since its inception, the London-based Castalian Quartet has established itself as one of the most dynamic and refined young string quartets of our time. They were named First Hans Keller String Quartet in Residence at the University of Oxford Music Faculty in 2021 and received the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Young Artists Award in 2019, the prestigious inaugural Merito String Quartet Award and in 2018 the Valentin Erben Prize, a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship Award, and gaining international recognition as they take their talents abroad.

The quartet derives its name from the Castalian source in the ancient city of Delphi. According to Greek mythology, the nymph Castile transformed into a fountain, creating a poetic source of inspiration for all who drink from its water.
