Community forum in Las Cruces focuses on addiction to fentanyl

LAS CRUCES – Two local companies are hosting an open house and community forum on Overdose Awareness Day to remember those who lost their lives to addiction and to discuss fentanyl, a new driver of the opioid crisis.

According to the New Mexico Department of Health, fentanyl-related deaths more than doubled in 2020 year over year.

The special event will take place on Tuesday, August 31st at 4:30 p.m. at the Ideal Option Clinic at 532 N Telshor Blvd, Suite G.

Ideal Option offers outpatient drug addiction treatment. Ideal Option is partnering with Peak Behavioral Health Services, a private hospital specializing in the treatment of mental illness and chemical addiction, for the event.

The event kicks off with an open house from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. where attendees enjoy refreshments and learn about the services of Ideal Option, Peak Behavioral Health, the Las Cruces Fire Department, New Mexico Department of Health. Doña Ana County Health and Human Services, the Unified Prevention (UP!) Coalition, and ALT Recovery.

At 5:30 p.m. Las Cruces Councilor Kasandra Gandara will hold an official proclamation, address the Las Cruces opioid crisis and introduce speakers. The community forum will be followed by a live question-and-answer session and networking session.
