As winter rains down and a cold offseason is underground indoors, the Fort Lewis College softball team is bolstering its staff for 2023 with the addition of Paige Adair, a four-year Division II veteran in the circle, as a volunteer assistant coach.

“I am excited to add Paige to our coaching staff,” said Fort Lewis College head coach Dwight Sanders. “She brings a high softball IQ and a great demeanor to our program. I am excited to see her develop our young arms into some of the better arms in the RMAC.”

Adair spent her last four seasons with the Mavericks at Colorado Mesa. She amassed a 145-31 overall record and a 114-11 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference record featuring four consecutive trips to the RMAC Tournament and two trips to the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament.

Adair was a decorated athlete at Mesa, compiling a distinguished resume with awards such as the 2022 D2CCA South Central Region Pitcher of the Year, the 2021 and 2022 RMAC Pitcher of the Year, First Team All-RMAC honors in 2021 and 2022, D2CCA First Team All-South-Central Region in 2022, D2CCA Second Team All-South-Central Region in 2021, RMAC Gold Glove in 2021, RMAC All-Tournament Team in 2021, and six RMAC Pitcher of the Week awards.

Owning a 2.16 career earned run average, Adair composed a career record of 44-10 across 334.0 innings pitched. Facing 1,369 batters during her tenure with the Mavericks, Adair struck out 316 while allowing just 89 bases on balls.

“As I continue to look to rebuild and retool this program, I felt she was the perfect addition to help us continue to build the program I envision here,” Sanders said. “Not only was she a quality ball player, but she is a great person who knows how to treat the girls well. Her ability to communicate and teach the game is impressive and going to help elevate our coaching staff and team. I have been fortunate to watch her playing career unfold and am excited to help her develop her coaching resume as she transitions to this side of the game. One thing that stands out about Paige is her commitment to being a successful college coach, she is always looking to go recruit, give lessons, and do anything above and beyond the status quo. Most importantly she is a good person and treats these kids well. I am excited to see the impact she has in the Blue & Gold for years to come.”

Fort Lewis will mark Adair’s first full-time collegiate coaching position; however, she has spent time as a student coach at Piedra Vista High School in Farmington, New Mexico. Adair attended Aztec High School.

Adair graduated from Mesa with a Bachelor of Science in sport management.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity given to me by coach Sanders to join the FLC coaching staff,” Adair said. “I have always wanted to coach at the collegiate level and share my love and knowledge for the game by helping young student-athletes. Being able to coach so close to my hometown is a plus as well. I look forward to the upcoming season and seeing our girls compete!”

The Skyhawks will begin the 2023 season on Feb. 4 at the South Central Regional Tournament in Los Lunas, New Mexico hosted by Western New Mexico.
