A Pojoaque Valley High School student who told a security officer he had a gun in his car was arrested Monday by deputies of the Santa Fe County Sheriff on charges of illegally carrying a deadly weapon.
The sheriff’s office said in a press release that the 16-year-old boy broke school rules by having lunch in his vehicle parked on school premises. When asked by a security guard if he had anything “worrying” in his vehicle, the boy said he had a gun his grandfather had given him the day before to take him on a fishing trip after the release.
MPs confiscated the gun and took the teenager to Santa Fe County Jail, the news release said. He was then taken to the San Juan Juvenile Prison.
