Final teen suspect arrested for Maverik gas station murder — City of Albuquerque

June 9, 2022

ALBUQUERQUE – The final teen suspect wanted for the murder of a woman in a case of mistaken identity was arrested today by Bernalillo County Sheriff’s deputies.

Adam C. Sedillo, 16, was among five teens charged for the March 25 murder of Kayla Montaño at the Maverik gas station. Two of the suspects, Ty Gallegos and Estevan Lucero surrendered to law enforcement on Wednesday. Two others, Diamond Salazar and Caprice Sicilia, surrendered to the police last month after they were charged.

Three of the five suspects allegedly fired 30 rounds at an SUV as it approached the Maverik Gas Stations, 3737 Princeton Dr. NE on the evening of March 25. The victim, Kayla Montaño, was in the passenger seat of the SUV when she was fatally shot. The driver was also injured.

Through investigation, detectives learned that Salazar and Sicilia claimed they were robbed earlier the night of March 25 by two masked, armed individuals during a drug or gun transaction at a North Valley park. The females were able to get away, and they later met up with Gallegos, Sedillo and Lucero at the Maverik gas station.

Witnesses said the group was gathered at the gas pumps when the SUV with Montaño and others drove up. Salazar told the others the approaching SUV was the same vehicle driven by the people who tried to rob her and Sicilia. At that point, the males in their group fired multiple rounds at the SUV, which backed into a gas pump and fled the area.
