“The idea was to do something cool and exciting for veterans because they are forgotten, often they are forgotten, and so freedom just totally came to me,” said Maez.
On Thursday, veterans could drive through Freedom Wash for free. An easy way for Maez, who is a veteran himself, to thank other soldiers and soldiers passing by.
“I was with the US Marine Corps and went from ’72 to ’76,” said customer and veteran Tommy Carlston.
Dahl, who is also a veteran, said:
“I served here from 1995 to 1999 at Kirtland Airforce Base. I was with the 377th Transport Squadron and I really enjoyed it. I loved every moment of that portion. “
All customers are served with a smile, courtesy of Arcenio “Archie” Madrid.
“He’s a veteran of three different branches of the military, so he kind of got on the property,” Maez said. “It’s nice to have him and customers love him because he’s so open-minded and nice and talkative.”
“I’m happy to be here,” said Madrid. “I met Joe with the previous owner of the car wash and I think since we’re friends we fell in love.”
The community also falls in love with her.
“Happy Veterans Day to all of the veterans out there,” said Carlston. “That’s great!”
Freedom Wash is open seven days a week and is located at 2200 Ladera Dr NW. Winter opening times are from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
