Gallup police arrest suspects in Albuquerque

GALLUP, NM (KRQE) – A man suspected of being involved in two murders in Albuquerque was arrested in Gallup Friday night. Xavier Marquez, 22, was arrested by Gallup Police Department along with New Mexico State Police Department on a murder warrant for the fatal shooting of Shawn Lynch on September 22, 2021.

Officials say murder detectives with APD are also investigating Marquez’s involvement in a second murder that occurred at a hotel on the West Side on June 22. 34-year-old Daniel Bustos was killed in this incident.

In September, APD detectives alleged that Marquez was in a vehicle outside his home on Block 400 of Kentucky St. SE when Lynch came by with his service dog. Words were exchanged between the two men and police said Marquez shot Lynch’s dog. Witnesses to the incident say Lynch started arguing with Marquez, who then shot Lynch in the head. Lynch would die of his wound on Monday, September 27, 2021.

Marquez is charged with open charges of murder, shooting at an occupied apartment, and extreme cruelty to animals.
