Las Cruces Aquatic Team is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Head Coach for a full-time position in sunny Las Cruces, New Mexico. The team has approximately 90 year-round swimmers from development to elite. We are looking for a head coach to lead and expand our team while at the same time maintaining a positive environment that encourages hard work, team unity and a love of sport. Outstanding candidates are self-motivated, inspire swimmers at all levels and can demonstrate the ability to bring a team with different swimming skills together as a cohesive unit.
Minimum qualifications:
- 3 or more years of experience in a position as Head Coach or Head Age Group Coach
- ASCA Level 2 certificate or equivalent
- Current US swim coach member in good standing
- Experience in coaching athletes up to at least section level
- Shows a vision for the development and advancement of athletes
- Competent in providing skills, techniques, training development and motivation for swimmers at all levels from development to elite
- Knowledge of the development of swimmers out of the water, including arid areas, nutrition and mental health
- Ability to encourage and empower swimmers to set and achieve high but achievable, defined and measurable goals
- Excellent organizational and planning skills, also for short and long-term team activities, exercises and competitions
- Strong interpersonal skills including open communication with parents, swimmers, coaching staff, facility managers, neighboring teams and liaison officers in the community
- Effective in leading, managing and mentoring a coaching staff, on and off the deck
- Clear understanding of finances and budgeting
- In-depth knowledge of the US Safe Swimming Guidelines
- Familiarity with TeamUnify and the Meet Manager and Team Manager software from HY-TEK
Las Cruces Aquatic Team environment:
- Our team is led by a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, parent-run board of directors who seek to work with and support the head coach
- The head coach will coach at least one group directly, including the senior group
- Further training opportunities up to trainer training
- Supporting the health and wellbeing of the head coach and coaching staff is a priority for the board
- Las Cruces is located in the heart of southern New Mexico, where we have 300 days of sunshine a year, nestled between miles of outdoor hiking trails and the beautiful Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument. This growing community is a peaceful and affordable place to live, located near El Paso, Texas and White Sands National Park.
- We currently exercise at two facilities, New Mexico State University’s 50 meter by 25 yard outdoor pool and a 25 meter indoor pool in town. We are excited about the new city indoor pool (50 meters x 25 yards), which is currently under construction and is expected to be completed in October 2022.
