Ledes from the Land of Enchantment

KENNETH PARK FRENCH | The Sumter Item

Kenneth Park “Ken” French passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2022, with his children by his side, and went to be with his Lord at the age of 92.

He was born on May 11, 1930, in Damascus, Virginia, to Jack P. and Blanche Shumate French.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Adelphia Sluder French; three brothers, Clifford French of Ormond Beach, Florida, Dennis French of Damascus and Marshall French of Ironton, Missouri; and one sister, Betty French Eddy of Damascus.

He is survived by a brother, Terry French (Anita) of Las Cruces, New Mexico; a sister, Gail French Combs (Jimmy) of Randleman, North Carolina; and many loved nieces and nephews.

He is lovingly remembered by his children, Dale French Lynam (Tommy) of Hilton Head and Ken (Sonny) French of Charleston; three grandchildren, Zack Lynam (Tara), Ben Lynam (Shaylin Davis) and Beth Lynam; and four great-grandchildren, Justyn Aiken, Trey Lynam, Taylor Lynam and Colten Lynam, all of Bluffton.

He moved to Sumter in 1956 and enjoyed a 40-year career at Korn Industries, before he retired and continued his expertise of wood refinishing. He loved and was very active in his church as a true servant of the Lord. In 2017, he moved to The Bayshore of Hilton Head to be near his children and grandchildren. Ken’s joy in life was making people feel special with a kind word, smile or a fist bump.

A special thank you to The Bayshore, especially the nurses and special caregivers that he enjoyed every day for almost five years.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Friday at Bullock Funeral Home in Sumter.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 pm on Saturday at Northside Memorial Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Employee Appreciation Fund at The Bayshore, 421 Squire Pope Road, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926.

You may go to www.bullockfuneralhome.com and sign the family’s guest book.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.
