Las Cruces City Council is discussing the regulation of commercial cannabis

news

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico – As the state of New Mexico prepares for recreational cannabis sales, Las Cruces City Council will discuss how to regulate pharmacies in the city on Monday.

According to the agenda, the city must take into account “various regulations” before selling leisure activities, including the distance between pharmacies and schools or daycare centers.

On June 29, recreational marijuana use became legal in New Mexico. On September 1, the Cannabis Control Division of the New Mexico Taxation & Revenue Department will begin accepting and processing licenses for those who intend to sell cannabis commercially.

The state will begin processing business applications on January 1, 2022. No later than April 1st, New Mexico will begin to allow the retail sale of cannabis according to the law.

The Cannabis Regulation Act prevents cities from completely banning pharmacies in their jurisdiction.
