Las Cruces police identify victims in pedestrian crashes

LAS CRUCES – Two men struck by struck by vehicles in separate incidents in the past week have died and police identified both men on Friday, Nov. 4.

Shane Brown, 36, of Las Cruces, was struck about 9:30 pm Sunday, Oct. 30, by a vehicle on Idaho Avenue. He died Thursday at University Medical Center of El Paso.

Police believe that a Jeep Cherokee ran a stop sign, left the road, veered on to the sidewalk and struck Brown. The driver then left the scene, police said.

Still lying in the roadway, Brown was struck by a second car. Police said that driver remained on scene and was cooperative.

Officers later discovered the Jeep Cherokee abandoned. They said they made contact with the female driver and were considering pressing charges.

Any witnesses to the crash on Idaho Avenue are asked to call police at 575-526-0795. The second fatal pedestrian crash happened Wednesday, Nov. 2.

Mark Herrick, 62, was crossing west Picacho Avenue between Quesenberry Street and 17th Street. when he was struck by a passing Chevrolet Tahoe shortly before 6:30 am Herrick was pronounced dead on scene.

Traffic investigators determined that Herrick was not on a sidewalk or a designated crossing area at the time of the crash. No charges are expected against the driver in the Picacho crash.
