LAS CRUCES – Las Cruces police are investigating after a body was found on Juniper Avenue early Sunday.
LCPD spokesman Det. Frank Torres said officers responded just before 7 a.m. in the area. September 5, after a 911 call, and found a deceased man lying on a sidewalk on the 1000 block of Juniper Avenue.
Torres said police had identified the 31-year-old and notified family members, but had not yet released his name.
Torres confirmed the man was not shot but did not want to comment on whether the man suffered a traumatic injury. He said investigators will know more after an autopsy.
Daryl Brown was the neighbor who first called 911 to report the body.
Brown, a retired x-ray technician, said he walked into his front yard just after 6:30 a.m. and noticed a man lying motionless and wrinkled on the sidewalk across the street. He said he went to the inspection and noticed the man wasn’t breathing so he called 911.
“There was a trail of blood coming from behind, but I would have had to turn it over to see more and I wouldn’t touch it because it could be a crime scene,” Brown said.
