Las Cruces youth softball team wins national tournament in Texas

The Las Cruces boom softball team won the USSSA Southwest National Championship this weekend in Plano, Texas.

The 14-under boom won its 32-team bracket after playing 1-2 in the pool game. In bracket play, they beat teams from Arkansas, San Antonio, Lubbock, Kansas and Oklahoma to win the championship.

This summer’s boom squad consisted of assistant coach Manny Renteria, assistant coach Amato Garcia, Kylie Lopez, Kaia Renteria, Layla Lazarin, Anjolina Garcia, Amanda Valles, Addie Moccia, Amaris Diaz, Emma Enoch, Nariah Martinez, coach Eddie Kriner, assistant coaches Ray Ramirez, Esperanza Romero, Angelina Ramirez, Zaysha Hawkins and Riley Castillo.

Zaysha Hawkins was the tournament’s offensive MVP and Angelina Ramirez was the tournament’s pitcher as well as the overall MVP.
