LCPS publishes matchday guidelines for Las Cruces-Mayfield soccer game

LAS CRUCES – Mayfield and Las Cruces high schools will each sell 5,000 tickets to Friday’s matchup between the Trojans and Bulldawgs, played for the first time at Field of Dreams.

Tickets will go on sale at the Field of Dreams for $ 5 each starting Tuesday, September 14, and according to the LCPS, no tickets will be sold at the stadium on Matchday. Mayfield tickets are sold at Gate 6 and Las Cruces tickets are sold at Gate 1. Tickets are also available at Mayfield and Las Cruces High Schools on September 16 and 17, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Bags, purses and backpacks at the gates that open at 5 p.m. on Friday will be searched.

“We ask fans to be patient and cooperative when checking bags at the gate and to exercise caution when leaving the parking lots,” said Ernie Viramontes, sporting director of the LCPS, in a statement.

Due to limited space, Field of Dreams parking lots do not allow RVs, tents, or canopies, and parking spaces are limited to one vehicle at a time. Mayfield, this year’s home team, will occupy the grandstands and parking lot on the west side. Las Cruces, the visiting team, will use the grandstands and the parking lot on the east side.

LCPS is asking Mayfield fans to enter the stadium via Motel Boulevard and Las Cruces fans via Tashiro Road.

Mayfield - Las Cruces game day operation

Still considered one of the country’s top high school rivalries, the game, which has attracted over 25,000 fans over the past few years, has traditionally been a powerhouse since it began in 1965. Mayfield and Las Cruces each have eight state championships. although neither has appeared in a state title game since the early / mid-2010s.

Las Cruces defeated Mayfield 23-6 in competition last season and has won the last five matchups between the two schools. The Trojans last defeated the Bulldawgs in 2015.

“It’s exciting to feel a sense of normalcy here at Las Cruces with football returning to the regular season this fall,” said Viramontes. “This longstanding rivalry game adds to that excitement.”
