ALBUQUERQUE, NM (AP) – Albuquerque Police Department said a man was arrested in connection with the death of his two-year-old daughter.
They said 32-year-old Michael David Garcia was jailed early Saturday on suspicion of fatal child molestation.
It was unclear on Sunday whether Garcia still had a lawyer who could speak for him.
Police said officials responded to an RV park in northeast Albuquerque around 3 p.m. Friday, where the young girl was found dead.
Authorities say the child appeared emaciated and had visible bruises on most of her body and burns on her back thigh and hands.
According to the , court records have shown that Garcia sought custody of his daughter and three other children within a month of his 2017 indictment of alleged physical abuse of the children’s mother.
That case was eventually dropped.
Before Garcia was arrested, police said he told officers he had just won custody of the children.
Police said the other children are now in the care of the New Mexico Department of Children, Youth and Family.
