MARGARET MADDEN Obituary (1932 – 2022) – Santa Fe, NM

Peggy Jenkins was born in Paterson, New Jersey, in 1932. After graduating class of 1950 from Kimberley School in Montclair, NJ, she received a BA in Physiology from Vassar College in 1954 and soon married and had 3 children. When her children were of school age, Peg taught science and was Head of the Upper School at Kimberly School. She later became Director of Counseling at Newark Academy in Livingston, NJ, also serving as Trustee of Bloomfield College.
Peg’s career in education grew as she became Head of Hathaway Brown School in Shaker Heights, Ohio, and moved on to head Phoenix Country Day School in Arizona. During this time she was involved with teacher training through the Independent Schools Association and worked as Chair of the Educational Records Bureau.
After retirement Peg worked as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Arizona Nature Conservancy, a Director of the Phoenix Zoo Board and Trustee of the Desert Botanical Garden.
Peg moved to Santa Fe, NM, to be near two of her children: Lynn Osborne and William Osborne. Never idle, she joined the Board of the local Audubon Society, most recently living in Montecito.
Her third child Wendy Pierce lives in Virginia. Peg was proud to be the grandmother of 6 talented grandchildren and a great-grandson. There were three important men in her life; WH Osborne III, the father of her children, Hugh Madden, and Bob Baker.
Throughout her life, Peg loved science, travel, adventure, birding and canoeing at PLP tree and nature preserve communities. She was a supporter of conservation and lifelong learning.
