Mary Schleher Obituary (1941 – 2022) – Albuquerque, NM

Mary Lou Schleher, 80, beloved wife and mother, was called to her eternal resting place on July 2, 2022. She entered this world on September 22, 1941 in Anchorage, Territory of Alaska, born to Raymond and Virginia Allen. Being of a military family she viewed Cody, WY as her hometown where she stayed when her dad was off to war. She is a graduate of the University of Wyoming, her “home” school, and a number of other Universities.
She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey Schleher; daughter, Kari Schleher; son, Scott Schleher all of Albuquerque for the last 37 years; daughter-in-law, Gabi Schleher; and grandson, Orrin Schleher of Sorghof, Germany; sister, Barbie; and brother-in-law, Glenn Schlabs of Colorado Springs, CO; and sister-in-law, Carol Schleher of Santa Clarita, CA; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Growing up in a military family and with a military husband, Mary Lou lived many places; the most interesting being Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and San Quirino, Italy, she also taught 2 years in Ethiopia in the first years of the Peace Corps. It is not surprising that her favorite activity as a High School teacher was Model United Nations. She retired from teaching in 2004 and stayed as busy as before with her many volunteer activities and friend groups, including book club, United Methodist Women, and Master Gardeners. Mary Lou’s friendships were many. She was committed to her faith and was very active at her church, Christ United Methodist. Mary Lou lived in Albuquerque longer than any other place in her life but lived for the annual family trip to Yellowstone National Park and the Allen Cabin in Wyoming.
A Memorial Service will be held, September 24th at 2 PM, at Christ United Methodist Church, 6200 Gibson Blvd.
