The postseason honors continue to pile up for Las Cruces High School senior William “Deuce” Benjamin.

Benjamin was named MaxPreps’ New Mexico Boys Basketball Player of the Year for 2022 by MaxPreps, a leading online source of high school sports information.

“Unsigned senior averaged 25.3 points, 6.9 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 2.8 steals to lead the Bulldawgs (31-1) to the Class 5A state title game. Benjamin shot 49 percent from the field and 85 percent from the free throw line this season,” MaxPreps stated in an article announcing the winners from all 50 states.

MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school basketball each year since 2006. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state honors that are earned.

Each state’s MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released April 12.

Earlier this week, Benjamin was named Mr. Basketball for New Mexico by NewMexicoPreps.com and Rivals.
