Mount Cristo Rey pilgrimage set for Saturday

The annual Mount Cristo Rey pilgrimage usually held in October has been rescheduled for Saturday.

Ruben Escandon, public relations director for the Mount Cristo Rey Restoration Committee, stated the change was made due to a request from the Catholic Diocese of Las Cruces.

“The new date coincides with the liturgical celebration of the Feast of Christ the King (The Solemnity of Christ) which falls on November 20 of this year,” Escandon said in a news release.

This year’s event in Sunland Park, New Mexico, also will feature changes to the schedule of events. The gates will open at 8 am and local clergy will be on-site to confess offer and reconciliation at 10 am The procession will start at noon, led by Bishop Peter Baldacchino of the Diocese of Las Cruces. Mass will be celebrated at 3 pm

Visitors are encouraged to arrive early and prepare for possible changes in the weather. Food and beverage concessions will be available. Visitors also are encouraged to make a donation in help maintain Mount Cristo Rey. All proceeds benefit the Mount Cristo Rey Restoration Committee.
