New Albuquerque Mayor Poll released shows Keller a front runner

Election day is only a month away and tonight we get a glimpse of how the race for mayor could develop. A poll published Tuesday by The Paper conducted by Public Policy Polling gives us a preview of where the race is. The poll shows that 53% of voters said they are not sure who to vote or not to vote for Mayor Tim Keller. “Tim Keller has 47%, Manny Gonzales 21%, Eddy Aragon 11% and not sure 21%,” said Adrian Carver of The Paper. The survey suggests that Mayor Keller still has a lot to do if he wants to secure the spot. “He hasn’t quite crossed the finish line yet. In our poll, Mayor Keller still has to win a few voters in order to fend off a runoff election, ”said Carver. A runoff election would take place if no candidate reached the 50% hurdle. But even in a runoff election, Keller’s chances of winning seem likely, according to the survey. “Sheriff Gonzales has to be 29% to be mayor in a runoff election. Mayor Keller only needs to reach 3% of the people, ”said Carver. If the race leads to a runoff, it would take place on December 7th. The election will take place on November 2nd. Centers will open on October 16th.
