Grant’s Tuesday night forecast

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Another storm system will penetrate west and north of New Mexico overnight, bringing more snow into these parts of the state. An overnight chance for excitement is also possible in Albuquerque.
The snow will increase in northwest New Mexico tonight through Wednesday morning. Heavy snowfall will be possible in the San Juan Mountains and the northern mountains of New Mexico. Moderate overnight snow could result in some slippery roads in parts of western and northern New Mexico, as well as southwest Colorado, by Wednesday morning. There may be some excitement on the Albuquerque Metro between midnight and 8 a.m. but no congestion is expected. The snow will wear off by Wednesday afternoon, with the exception of the northern mountains, as it will be a cool and stormy afternoon across the state.
The weather will be somewhat calmer on Thursday, although there is still light snow in parts of the San Juan Mountains and adjacent lower elevations. Before our next storm system, which will arrive on New Year’s Eve, moisture will be pouring in from the southwest.
By Friday morning, the snow will start spreading again to west and north New Mexico, as well as southwest Colorado, some of which will be heavy. The snow will sink to the valley floor by Friday morning, which means there will be a chance for a mix of rain and snow in Albuquerque all day on New Years Eve. Heavy snowfall will likely be in the mountains and high terrain of northern and western New Mexico, with again the heaviest snow likely in the San Juan Mountains in particular. Some roads will be slippery in the western and northern parts of the state by New Year’s Day, and high mountain passes are unlikely to be accessible.
This storm system clears up during the day on New Years Day and will leave very cold temperatures for the weekend. At the beginning of next week, high pressure builds up again, which heats up the temperatures again and keeps our weather much calmer and drier.
