Organ Mountain wins fourth consecutive district championship for boys

LAS CRUCES – The Organ Mountain Boys won the fourth straight boys’ cross-country championship meeting on Saturday at OMHS.

Senior Brett Bybee won the boys’ race at 4:00:10 p.m. when the Knights landed ahead of Alamogordo and Centennial, with the top 3 teams qualifying for the state championships at the Albuquerque Academy next weekend.

Alamogordo won the girls’ meeting, with Organ Mountain taking second place and Centennial taking third place.

Alamogordo’s Ellary Battle won the girls’ race in 19: 12.49. Organ Mountain’s Josslynn Ochoa finished third as the Tigers had four of the top four singles.

In addition to the top three who qualify, the top two from an unqualified team will also compete at the state meeting.

Mayfields Layla Lazarin and Demings Nayeli Jimenez qualified for the girls. Lazarin finished seventh on Saturday and Jimenez finished 11th.

Matthew Krizek and Ben Widner from Las Cruces High took the boys’ qualifying places. Krizek was seventh on Saturday and Widner was ninth.
