The tradition continues.

Thousands of lights will illuminate the grounds of the ABQ BioPark Botanical Garden starting Saturday November 27th during the annual Flow of Lights.

The event has become a staple of the holiday season in Albuquerque, drawing thousands of visitors over the four-week period. The event is the New Mexico BioPark Society’s largest fundraiser, and the proceeds will support the ABQ BioPark.

Last year there was a scaled-down event due to the pandemic, but there will be some changes this year.

According to Danielle Flores Mills, Marketing and Communications Manager for the New Mexico BioPark Society, timed tickets will be available online at riveroflights.org.

She says all tickets must be purchased online and in advance.

“Reservations can be made by the hour, and guests have to arrive during their reservation time, but can stay as long as they want,” she says. With timed admission, attendance is limited each evening to keep the crowd down and allow social distancing.

“The event is designed as a one-way street to avoid pedestrian crossing,” says Flores Mills.

Park & Ride is offered on selected nights at the ABQ BioPark Zoo.

Visitors can see around 600 handcrafted structures filled with lights.

From dinosaurs to pegasus and unicorns to everything in between, there is sure to be something for everyone.

Of course, the placement of many of the lighted structures changes every year.

“There are some pieces that have been in our collection for years,” she says. “Moving them every year helps change the scenery for the visitors. What you might have missed last year will be the focus this year. “

Flores Mills says the River of Lights team added several new sculptures to the African scene.

Also new this year is Santa’s workshop. The event includes s’mores and hot chocolate, which you personalize with festive toppings; take a selfie with Santa while you share your holiday wish list with him; and an ornament created by your little ones to take away and as a lasting memory of your evening.

This is an additional $ 25 for adults, $ 20 for children ages 3 to 12, and $ 12 for infants under 3 years of age.
