THE CROSSES

– Seniors Alyssa Covarrubia and Cat Kelly each received the “Outstanding Graduate” award for the fall semester 2021.

The Outstanding Graduate Award is given every semester to a graduate from each of the two academic universities as well as to a master’s and doctoral student from the Graduate School. Award winners are selected through a nomination and dean selection process and recognized for their exceptional academic performance, remarkable leadership skills, and extracurricular commitment to the university and community.

Covarrubia, a member of the Las Cruces track and field team, was one of only seven graduates to receive the NMSU Alumni Association’s Outstanding Graduate Award. She was recognized for her commitment to excellence in the College of Engineering. She has a 3.98 GPA and Crimson Scholar status and is graduating with a bachelor’s degree in geometry. As a javelin thrower, Covarrubia has received the Academic All-WAC award four times during her career.

In addition, Kelly, a volleyball player from Albuquerque, was recognized as an Outstanding Graduate of the Faculty for her accomplishments at the College of Business. This fall, she will be completing her bachelor’s degree in marketing and has maintained a GPA of 3.55. In three and a half years as an outside hitter at NM State, Kelly was inducted three times on the Academic All-WAC list.
