The violence in Apodaca Park encourages easier conversations

LAS CRUCES – Las Cruces City Council representative Kasandra Gandara will lead a three-part series of moderated discussions in July and August that will focus on public safety, the judicial and legal system and the resources available to support the community.

In a press release, Gandara stated that it was important to have an “open conversation” given the “terrible violence in and around the Apodaca Park area”.

Police accuse Joel Arciniega-Saenz of killing and beheading a man in Apodaca Park on June 20, a murder that hit the headlines and fascinated the community.

Gandara stated that the panel discussions are available to help members of the community better understand public safety, the judicial and legal systems, and the resources available to the community. The events also provide an opportunity for attendees to share their views and concerns with invited officials and agency representatives.

These conversations are held in person. People are encouraged to wear masks when they believe it is in their best interests to do so. Anyone with questions about the series is encouraged to email the City of Las Cruces at [email protected] or call 575-541-2192.
