Westside Emergency Housing Center continues to provide shelter when temperatures drop – Albuquerque City

December 9, 2021

The City of Albuquerque and Westside Emergency Housing Center (WEHC) partners are reminding everyone to take precautionary measures and stay safe as the temperature drops. The shelter remains open 24/7 to accommodate single men and women in need of safe housing. Shuttles to and from the facility are available from various locations around the city.

“We want to make sure everyone comes out of the cold to a warm, safe place” said Mayor Keller. “We expanded the Westside Emergency Housing Center so that it is open all year round to provide beds and meals to the homeless. On the way into winter, the team is working hard to welcome everyone who has become homeless. “

“When the temperatures start to drop, we recommend anyone who needs safe shelter to use the Westside Emergency Housing Center.” said Lisa Huval, assistant director for housing and homelessness for the Office of Family and Community Services.

The city expanded the WEHC into year-round accommodation in 2018 and now offers three meals a day. It provides a welcoming environment for single men and women homeless in Albuquerque. Information on how to collect and return the shuttle can be found at cabq.gov/wehc.
